How do social determinants affect human trafficking in southeast Asia, and what can we do about it?

In this excellent article, McEwing and Perry identify 21 important factors that contribute to the trafficking of people (mainly women and children) in and from Southeast Asia for purposes of exploitation, often sexual exploitation. They identified these factors by analyzing 61 recent articles on the subject from various authors. Also identified through their analysis are guidelines and suggestions for mitigating these factors identified as contributing to human trafficking in Southeast Asia, such as job training, alternative education, and public awareness campaigns. This article is concise and supplemented with well-organized tables and info-graphs which will certainly increase the reader’s understanding of the various contributing factors and potential solutions surrounding this important human rights issue.
